FICO
FICO is a type of credit score. It is the most widely used type of credit score, used often to assess the credit worthiness of a mortgage or loan applicant. The FICO score is developed by a company known as the Fair Isaac Corporation. There are two types of FICO credit scores. FICO refers more to the actual scoring model. The FICO scoring model uses credit reporting histories to calculate a numeric value. There is an Equifax FICO score and there is a TransUnion FICO score. Both Equifax and TransUnion are top three credit bureaus. Experian, another major credit bureau, no longer works with and uses the FICO scoring algorithm.
In addition to the FICO score, there are other types of credit scores. There is a Vantage Score. Each credit bureau also has its own bureau credit score.
